Anneliese Fadel is a suburban wife and mother who struggles with self-loathing and bouts of depression. A series of snapshots spanning three decades reveal her journey as she grapples with past trauma, guilt, and unfulfilled potential, all while trying to connect with her husband, daughter, and herself.

Having suffered from adolescent bullying, Anneliese believes that marrying James and a fresh start in a posh Philly suburb will offer her the clean slate she desperately needs. But old demons, including a betrayal that could destroy her marriage and painful memories of exclusion in high school, prove difficult to escape.

As Anneliese’s emotional isolation intensifies, she withdraws from her family, particularly her growing daughter, Ella, and sinks into apathy. But when a triggering event during Ella’s senior prom leads to irreparable disaster, Anneliese begins to confront the true cost of her self-sabotage.

Can she repair the bonds with her husband and daughter? Can she be there for her ailing mother? And, most urgently, can she learn to love herself so she can love others?
