About Kavitha Reddy Goyal

Kavitha Reddy Goyal was born in India and raised in Ireland and the northeastern U.S. After a rewarding 30-year career in medicine and the biopharmaceutical industry, Kavitha is enjoying a pivot to writing fiction and working on a debut novel. Having diagnosed and treated mental illness and having seen firsthand the impact of apathy and fear in our daily lives, she is inspired to create relatable characters who demonstrate hope and choice in overcoming obstacles. Several of her short stories have been published online or in print literary journals, and many others are under review.

She's a wife and mother, lives in the Philadelphia area, and loves to explore nature, the arts (absolutely every kind) and the humanities in her free time.

English is not Kavitha’s first language. It’s Telugu, with roots in ancient Dravidian, spoken in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and by 80 million people world-wide.

She can read anywhere, holding a book, with headphones, or on an electronic device, decent-sized font permitting. In eighth grade, she read Margaret Mitchell’s epic Gone with the Wind over a weekend to avoid helping her parents pack and unpack boxes during a move. Kavitha can also write anywhere with a keyboard, and once the concept has taken root, she can write in a public space or in solitude, but there can’t be music with words.

Her favorite rom-com is from an era before the term was coined, Merchant and Ivory’s A Room with a View based on the novel by E. M. Forster is a feast for the eyes and the soul.

A family vacation in Ireland thirty years on, revived touching memories of the welcoming place her family first immigrated.

Kavitha was not successful in pursuing ophthalmology herself, so she married an ophthalmologist!

Her fight songs: “I won’t back down” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and “Man in the Box” by Alice in Chains, depending on the vibe.

Kavitha has practiced yoga for over twenty years and is half-way to a yoga teacher certification but still can’t do a adho mukha svanasana (down dog) properly. There’s meaning in that too.

Greek food is a favorite but an authentic NY style slice is a strong competitor. If we’re being honest, Indian food is still the very best.

A long-time dream is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. She needs to find time to train, in between prohibitive injuries (sigh). The closest she’s gotten is a view of the magnificent snowy peak through the clouds on a flight from Arusha, Tanzania to Nairobi, Kenya.
